Prof. Billington delivers keynote at 8th RDBCC & PHRC Joint Housing Conference
The 8th Residential Building Design & Construction Conference was held jointly with the Pennsylvania Housing Research Center Conference.
The joint conference was held at the Penn Stater Hotel & Conference Center in State College, Pennsylvania and focused on research related to the design and construction of residential housing. Prof. Billington’s talk, titled “From Concept to Community: Design Strategies for Sustainable Affordable Housing,” highlighted several projects from the Billington Lab as well as collaborations with colleagues across Stanford.
The projects presented included studies of the role of the built environment in public perceptions of affordable housing and the use of Stanford’s Online Deliberative Polling® to understand informed public opinion on housing issues. She also presented collaborative work on the impact of sustainable retrofits on older adult wellbeing, the impact of indoor nature on wellbeing, and ongoing studies led by Prof. Catherine Gorlé exploring the development of a user-friendly design tool to increase the adoption of natural cooling in residential building design for increased building energy efficiency.
