Teaching and mentoring are an important part of the work that we do - easily as important as our research. Our philosophy is to invest deeply in the next generation of designers who shape our built environments.

In our teaching, we encourage hands-on activities to learn concepts independently and in groups.

The classes we teach include the lab’s latest research findings. We aim to inspire students and empower them to bring our research into practice.

We welcome undergraduate and masters degree students to join our lab meetings and get involved with our research during the academic year and summers.
In this course, students develop an understanding and appreciation of modern structures, learn how to calculate structural safety, and study the impact of structural design on society and the environment. Students from all backgrounds are welcome. [Not offered in AY24-25]
In this course, students learn the principles of structural engineering design including how to design structural components of reinforced concrete (e.g., beams, columns, and slabs) and steel (e.g., beams, columns, tension and compression members, and connections) for various structural systems. [Offered W25]
In this course, students learn about new and traditional construction materials for use in sustainable building and infrastructure projects. Material properties, their performance over time, and their impact on people and the environment are studied and students complete a design project in teams. [Offered in W25 by Dr. Douglas]
