New paper on biophilic illusions appears
Recent graduate Dr.Basma Altaf’s new paper in Environment & Behavior, co-authored with Prof. Sarah Billington, investigates how biophilic design interventions like wind-animated tree shadows, sun-animated lighting, and local bird sounds can enhance nature connectedness and relaxation in windowless spaces. The paper, titled “Biophilic Design Interventions for Indoor Environments: Exploring Nature Connectedness, Well-being, and Public Acceptance Through a Within-subjects Experiment,” presents the results of a within-subjects experiment (n=345). Findings highlight the potential for low-cost, tech-enabled biophilic design to support human well-being in windowless spaces.
