Lab receives grant for Deliberative Polling on AI Infrastructure

Funding awarded through Stanford Energy Bits and Watt’s Initiative

Collaborators: Co-PIs Ashish Goel (Management Science & Engineering), Rishee Jain (Civil & Environmental Engineering), Alice Siu (Freeman-Spogli Institute for International Studies), and Gabrielle Wong-Parodi (Earth Systems Science).

The Billington Lab, in collaboration with Stanford’s Deliberative Democracy Lab, has been awarded a grant to continue a community-engaged Deliberative Polling® initiative focused on data center development. Funding through the Stanford Precourt Institute for Energy’s Bits & Watts Initiative and the Sustainability Accelerator will support the development of an online deliberative polling process in which participants engage with balanced background materials and small-group discussions to develop and share informed perspectives on data center development. The process will examine how views change through deliberation and generate insights to support more informed and publicly responsive decisions about future data center development. The first poll will take place in San Jose on September 26th.
