Black Older Adults’ Perception of Using Voice Assistants to Enact a Medical Recovery Curriculum
We are excited to announce the publication of our latest research paper, led by PhD student Andrea Green, which explores Black older adults’ perceptions of interactive voice assistants (IVAs) in healthcare. By recruiting 26 Black older adults to provide feedback during the design process for an IVA system, a need for Black cultural representation, whether through the IVA’s accent, the types of media featured, or race-specific medical advice, and the need for strategies to address participants’ concerns and stigmas are needed. This work is part of a larger collaborative project on the design of ambient care spaces where the physical and digital environments of older adults can be designed to support aging-in-place.
