Antonio presents at LASA 2026 in Paris
Antonio presented at the 2026 Latin American Studies Conference
The title of Antonio’s talk was Identifying Forced Labor in the Brazilian Mining Sector Using an Interpretable Machine Learning Approach. The presentation focused on leveraging geospatial data, records of past forced labor cases at Brazilian mines, and machine learning methods to understand the conditions under which forced labor risks emerge within mining operations for construction materials across Brazil. The audience was highly interdisciplinary, leading to a fruitful conversation about the merits and challenges of using satellite-based data to measure invisibilized social impacts resulting from extractive industries, such as forced labor and displacement.
